ISLAMIC, Ayyubids. Egypt. al-Kamil I Muhammad, AH 615-635 / AD 1218-1238. Dinar (Gold, 22 mm, 4.06 g, 11 h), in Naskh calligraphy, al-Qahira, AH 626 = AD 1228/9. Citing the ʿAbbasid caliph al-Mustansir billah (AH 623-640 / AD 1226-1242) within a circle, ‘al-Imām al-Manṣūr Abū / Jaʿfar al-Mustanṣir / billāh amīr al-muʾminīn’ (‘Imam al-Mansur Abu Jaʿfar al-Mustansir billah, Commander of the Believers’ in Arabic); in the margin, ‘bism Allāh al-raḥmān al-raḥīm ḍuriba hādhā al-dīnār bi al-Qāhira sana sitt wa ʿishrīn wa sitta miʾa’ (‘In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. This dinar was struck in al-Qahira in the year 626’ in Arabic). Rev. Within a circle, ‘Ayyūb / al-malik al-Kāmil / Abu’l-Maʿālī Muḥammad / ibn Abī Bakr ibn’ (‘King al-Kāmil Abu’l-Maʿali Muhammad son of Abu Bakr son of Ayyub’ in Arabic); in the margin, ‘lā ilāha illā Allāh Muḥammad rasūl Allāh arsalahū bi al-hudā wa dīn al-ḥaqq liyuẓhirahū ʿalā al-dīn kullih’ (‘There is no deity but Allah. Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. He sent him with guidance and the religion of truth, so that He may make it overcome all religions’ in Arabic). Album 811.3. With suspension loop.
